We’d like to take a moment in the uncertainty we are all experiencing right now to wish everyone a Happy Earth Day.
We’ve always been focused on ensuring that each of our events are created with love, sustainability and the environment overall in mind. The beautiful nature we are surrounded by is what inspires us, leading to breathtaking outdoor adventures and gorgeous events that reflect our clients vision and their values.
In the spirit of the day, we have put together a list of 5 easy things that you can do to incorporate sustainable and ethical practices into your intimate wedding.
1. Choose an Eco-friendly venue
Select a venue that puts an emphasis on environmentally friendly practices such as recycling, composting, or making changes to become LEED/Green-Key certified. You can also choose a location that can host both ceremony and reception to reduce the emissions from cars on the road! Our faves:
2. Keep your menu local
It’s important to find caterers that not only compost, but source their food from sustainable sources. Eating local is important, as the carbon emissions involved with shipping food across the country or across the globe has a negative impact on our environment. Work with caterers who source their food locally and are thoughtful of only choosing foods that are in season at the time of your wedding. Our food icons:
3. Faux is the new black
Work with florists who use dried or faux florals within their designs. Often this can give you the same look you want for a longer period of time as well. If you are after the look of fresh cut blooms, choose locally grown florals that are currently in season. This reduces the need for blooms to be flown in from around the globe. You can also reuse your florals afterwards or donate them! Some of our faves:
4. Rent, Don’t Buy
Look into renting your décor and linens, as opposed to purchasing or utilizing disposable items. The look can be more elegant and cohesive, and the best part, you don’t end up throwing away a ton of garbage or keeping 40 blush tablecloths in your garage!
5. Favourite Favours
If you are handing out favours, our recommendation? Edible items! Traveling guests (and the planet) will always appreciate a midnight snack and often prefer something sweet over a shot glass with your wedding date. Source snacks from local brands or the farmer’s market to support small businesses. P.S. Wine also works well here.
Keep in mind that your wedding doesn’t have to be completely eco-friendly at all, even the smallest changes can have a big impact in our world. Have additional questions?
