Friday Feature: Blended by Amber

We’re all about a collaborative atmosphere here at Clearwater, and love to shout-out the amazing talent we have in the Vancouver wedding industry! Our elopement and intimate wedding package features some of our favourite people to work with, and ones that we’ve had the opportunity to get to know and love over the years. To show our thanks, we thought we’d start a new initiative here on the blog, featuring a new vendor from this collaboration every other Friday. To kick us off, we thought we’d start out with one of our partners that we’ve had the pleasure of knowing for many years now, and who has kept us (and our brides!) looking their best: Amber Rodan of Blended by Amber.

A small town girl, with artistic dreams, Amber moved to Vancouver and began her make-up journey over 10 years ago. She has experience working in every aspect of the industry, from managing salons and spas, to creating stunning hair and make-up looks on brides of every skin-tone, style and preference.

Amber is dedicated to creating an amazing experience for her clients while helping them become the best versions of themselves through beautiful hair and make-up techniques. She incorporates sustainable and eco-friendly products that are not only beneficial to her clients and their skin, but also help to create a smaller carbon footprint and prevent animal cruelty. This is very important to us, as we strive to work with vendors that share our values of sustainability and ethical practices.

The level of talent that Amber has is unreal, and she has an extensive resume to show this, having been featured in Rocky Mountain Bride, BRIDES, West Coast Weddings and so many more publications. She is also a winner of multiple 2019 International Beauty Industry Awards, including awards for Best Eco/Sustainable Makeup Artistry and Best Natural Makeup.

We’ve had the pleasure of working with Amber on a number of weddings and styled shoots, which include all of the photos featured in this blog post. Our new elopement and intimate weddings package will be coming soon with full details and pricing, and will include full Hair and Make-up services from Blended by Amber.

We can’t wait to bring all of the love, care and beautiful details to your wedding, whether it’s just the two of you, or 20 of your closest people. Drop us a line via natasha@clearwaterevents.org!

Small Celebrations, Big Love: Our New Services!

As sustainably-focused wedding planners, we’ve always been supportive of small, intimate celebrations. We truly appreciate the level of detail and luxury (#ecoluxe) that can be incorporated when the guest count doesn’t come into play.

In Late 2019, the Clearwater Team began making plans to implement a brand new intimate wedding and elopement package, based on our love of beautiful, intimate weddings and their ability to bring together those closest to the couple, while also offering a level of luxury and quality that may not be accessible when holding a larger celebration.

We have been working quietly behind the scenes to create new packages that allow for our couples to easily plan their elopements or intimate ceremonies with intention, beauty and sustainability. The hope is that our new services can assist in helping you to create the day of your dreams, while offering you access to experienced, talented vendors who will go the extra mile to make your wedding magical.

Love knows no bounds, and neither do we. From a romantic mountain-top vow exchange, to a luxury long-table dinner for your closest family, we’re here to make it happen. We can’t wait to sit down with you and share ideas!

We are pleased to be partnering with some of Vancouver (& BC’s) best wedding vendors:

Our new information package will be coming soon with full details and pricing for our elopement and intimate weddings packages.

Earth Day: Your Wedding and the Environment

We’d like to take a moment in the uncertainty we are all experiencing right now to wish everyone a Happy Earth Day.

We’ve always been focused on ensuring that each of our events are created with love, sustainability and the environment overall in mind. The beautiful nature we are surrounded by is what inspires us, leading to breathtaking outdoor adventures and gorgeous events that reflect our clients vision and their values.

In the spirit of the day, we have put together a list of 5 easy things that you can do to incorporate sustainable and ethical practices into your intimate wedding.

1. Choose an Eco-friendly venue
Select a venue that puts an emphasis on environmentally friendly practices such as recycling, composting, or making changes to become LEED/Green-Key certified. You can also choose a location that can host both ceremony and reception to reduce the emissions from cars on the road! Our faves:

Fairmont Waterfront Hotel
JW Marriott PARQ Hotel
Rowena’s Inn
Summerhill Pyramid Winery
The Wickaninnish Inn

2. Keep your menu local
It’s important to find caterers that not only compost, but source their food from sustainable sources. Eating local is important, as the carbon emissions involved with shipping food across the country or across the globe has a negative impact on our environment. Work with caterers who source their food locally and are thoughtful of only choosing foods that are in season at the time of your wedding. Our food icons:

Cocktails and Canapes
Culinary Capers
Forage Vancouver

3. Faux is the new black
Work with florists who use dried or faux florals within their designs. Often this can give you the same look you want for a longer period of time as well. If you are after the look of fresh cut blooms, choose locally grown florals that are currently in season. This reduces the need for blooms to be flown in from around the globe. You can also reuse your florals afterwards or donate them! Some of our faves:

Da Fiore
De La Flore
Faux Floral
Hanaki Floral

4. Rent, Don’t Buy
Look into renting your décor and linens, as opposed to purchasing or utilizing disposable items. The look can be more elegant and cohesive, and the best part, you don’t end up throwing away a ton of garbage or keeping 40 blush tablecloths in your garage!
Décor stars:

Bespoke Decor
Debut Event Design
Past Pieces
Pedersens Event Rentals

5. Favourite Favours
If you are handing out favours, our recommendation? Edible items! Traveling guests (and the planet) will always appreciate a midnight snack and often prefer something sweet over a shot glass with your wedding date. Source snacks from local brands or the farmer’s market to support small businesses. P.S. Wine also works well here.
Our “favour”ites:

Butter Baked Goods
Cakes by Peddie
Zimt Chocolate

Keep in mind that your wedding doesn’t have to be completely eco-friendly at all, even the smallest changes can have a big impact in our world. Have additional questions? Drop us a line via natasha@clearwaterevents.org and we can help you with everything from eco-friendly vendors, sustainable florals, to waste-diversion tactics, and everything in between!

Hi there friend!

Thanks for popping by the blog.

As we get ready to close out 2019 and start a new decade (what the what?!), I thought it was finally time to get this blog business started.  For real this time.

Those of you that have been around for a while know that Clearwater Events made a pretty clear shift in the kinds of projects that we take on.  For us, being at the forefront of the movement towards sustainable events was really important.  Many of the large publications are even dubbing it as one of the top trends in 2020.

This shift towards sustainability hit us after working a large conference and seeing just how much waste events can generate in only a few days. We knew there had to be a better way to do things, did our research, and now we’re on a mission to support both industry professionals and clients on their journey too.

Our hope with this blog is to be open and vulnerable with our stories, share some behind-the-scenes of the incredible events we have the privilege of working on, and to share tips and resources for how to plan a more conscious event.

Thank you for joining us on this ride, and if there’s anything that you want to know, you know where to reach us.

With love,

Natasha
